One week in Bangkok

One week in Bangkok

Thailand is such a big country, and with only one week, we weren’t able to visit much. I am the type of person who like to explore things without rushing too much, which is why we decided to stay in Bangkok the whole week (plus, it’s an excuse to come back and have more time to enjoy all of the other beautiful places Thailand has to offer!)

Here are some useful and interesting facts about Thailand:

Currency

At the moment, $1 US dollar equals 32 Thailand Bahts.
Thailand, as most of South East Asia countries, is very affordable.

Food

Food in Thailand is so good! Take your time to enjoy the local food, there is definitely much more dishes than the famous Pad Thai. The price of food will depend on where you go. On average, you can get a coconut for 60 Bahts around $2 US dollars, and a Pad Thai for 120 Bahts around $4 US dollars.

Transportation

The best way to more around the city as a tourist is with Grab (is like Uber for South East Asian countries). Taxis are also a great way to move around but always make sure they are using the taximeter, since they like to double charge tourists. Tuk tuks are a big thing in Thailand but they are usually more expensive than a taxi. You could take a ride in a tuk tuk just for the experience, but I definitely recommend to move around in taxi or with Grab.

weather

We visited Thailand in August and the weather was super hot and humid, 32C/89F to be specific.

SHOPPING

Siam is the center of shopping in Bangkok. There you will find MBK Center, Siam Discovery, Siam Center, and Siam Paragon. They are all shopping malls right next to each other.

You can also do some shopping at the local markets where you will find several souvenirs to bring back home. If you go to the markets, definitely be ready to bargain, as the vendors usually double the price for tourists. I bought the orange  pants I am wearing on the pictures at the local market. Initially they were selling them to me at 600 Bahts, but after bargaining for a while, they sold them to me at 250 Bahts ($8 US dollars).

The City

Bangkok is full of instagrammable places, almost everywhere you go you’ll find a temple or an interesting place to take pictures at. So definitely be ready and bring your camera everywhere you go.

Below you will find some pictures we took at Wat Pho Temple.
